The spirit of murder is of the devil because “he was a murderer from the beginning” (John 8:44). In today’s Scripture reading,we see the intense hatred of satan for the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15). Because God promised the devil that Eve’s offspring would crush his head, satan sought to murder the Messiah.Thinking that Abel was perhaps that one, satan incited Cain to murder his brother. Realizing later that Jesus was that one,
the devil incited Herod to kill all children in Bethlehem two years old and under two (Matthew 2:16).
Satan hatred, not only for the christ, but also for those who are “Christ-ians” has driven him to murder millions of believers in nations worldwide.Try as he will though,to “gather together against the Lord and against His anointed one” (Psalm2:2), he is always defeated. In fact God even laughs at satan’s anger and murderous attempts to stop His son from redeeming the world (v.4).In the end the ultimate prophecy to believers will be fulfilled.
